Introduction

Galaxy Z Flip8 transforms Samsung's smaller, foldable smartphone into a more helpful pocket companion, but retains the clamshell form that has anchored the Galaxy series. Whereas the focus of its headline upgrade is not on new camera systems or increased battery power, it is on a new 4-inch FlexWindow design that now act as a miniature smartphone and a slim and light construction. At 180 grams and 6.1 millimeters unfolded the Flip8 is less cumbersome than its previous sibling, while the 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X big screen inside acts primarily as a space for entertainment, communication and complex tasks.

At the core of the hardware are Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, and Samsung says it provides 30 percent higher CPU throughput, 25 percent more powerful graphics performance, and 41 percent more powerful AI performance than Flip7. The 4,300mAh silicon-carbon battery has the same nominal capacity but still saves some internal space which has helped Samsung to the slimmer chassis. The main screen can be driven to 2,600 nits, switching from 1 Hz to 120 Hz and the cover screen is four inches and can accommodate a much richer software experience.

Photography is still based on a 50MP wide camera and 12MP ultra wide camera – not a dedicated telephoto lens. FlexCam, Auto Zoom, Dual Recording, and AI editing tools make the foldable format itself part of the camera experience. Samsung is also keeping the IP48 water and dust resistance, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 7, UWB, and 25W wired charging features.

What makes this flagship so special is that both the hardware refinement and the practical redesign of closed-phone interaction are evolutionary, giving this generation exactly the point of difference it needs. But for buyers, it is not the biggest spec they look at – it’s the balance.
