Pixel 11 Pro XL

Review

The Pixel 11 Pro XL should be seen more as a larger screen iteration of the Pixel 10 Pro XL than a redo. The body measures 162.6x76.2x8.5mm and weighs 221g, so it's a pretty solid grip, but the fresh camera bar with a 40 percent reduced thickness sits better next to flat surfaces. HiLight replaces the previous temperature sensor and provides visual cues for calls and Gemini interactions.

The 6.8 inch Super Actua LTPO OLED display is the largest physical edge the XL has. The resolution is 1344x2992, the density is 486 pixels per inch and adaptive refresh is 1 – 120Hz. Peak brightness boosts to 3,600 nits, ensuring the clarity of information that can be displayed outside and providing impressive HDR capabilities. The brighter display is a welcome upgrade from the Pixel 10 Pro XL, but Samsung's biggest Galaxy phones still have some great competition among displays.

Tensor G6 provides the main internal upgrade. Everyday tasks feel responsive, while improved thermals make sustained use comfortable. Benchmark results still place the Pixel behind Snapdragon-based flagships in demanding graphics workloads. Google instead uses Tensor G6 to accelerate computational photography and AI features.

The camera system is the XL’s strongest technical argument. Uses 50MP main camera, 48MP ultrawide camera with autofocus and Macro Focus, 48MP 5x telephoto camera with optical stabilization. The telephoto sensor is larger, and gathers more light, enhancing detail at useful levels of zoom. Pro Zoom reaches 120x. Computational reconstruction becomes more apparent at higher magnifications, and should be thought of more like a bonus effect than as a substitute for longer reach. Magic Capture works more realistically keeping video and snatching a good photo from a dynamic movement with its artificial intelligence. Camera Looks adds deeper control over processing style, while Instant Night Sight accelerates difficult low-light photography.

Battery capacity increases to a typical 5,115mAh, and Google rates the XL above 30 hours. In the mixed application scenarios, the XL has more endurance capability than the smaller Pro, but testing has produced uneven results in battery life compared to other Snapdragon-powered smartphones. Charging speed drastically improves, with a compatible 45W PPS charger loading 75 per cent in just half an hour and Pixelsnap wireless charging with 25W.

The Pixel 11 Pro XL still has a solid argument to make for the photographer and AI enthusiasts, who desire a larger screen, excellent computational imaging, wireless charging and seven years of software support. Its greatest drawback is not its ability, but its worth: this is where new Pixel users get refinement, not transformation.
